Numerical study of Fourier-filtered rough surfaces

Correlations between the properties of a rough surface and their associated drag are very useful tool in engineering. Here, we assess effect different scales roughness by numerically simulating flow over surfaces constructed band-passing spectral content scanned grit-blasted surface. Although velocity fluctuations found overall to be resilient changes, find existing correlations only qualitatively useful, while dispersive stresses (associated with mean inhomogeneity) shown depend on content.

A numerical model of friction between rough surfaces
This paper describes a computational method to calculate the friction force between two rough surfaces. In the model used, friction results from forces developed during elastic deformation and shear resistance of adhesive junctions at the contact areas. Contacts occur between asperities and have arbitrary orientations with respect to the surfaces. The size and slope of each contact area depend ...

An Improved Numerical Method for Scattering from Dielectric Rough Surfaces
The need for numerical methods in studying electromagnetic scattering from rough surfaces is well established. The most commonly used numerical method is the surface integral equation method and its solution by the method of moments (MoM). Conventional implementation of MoM requires O(N^3) operations, where N is the number of surface unknowns. When N is large, as frequently encountered in study...
